Meet the team – Ben Slee

Name: Ben Slee

Church: Christ Church Mayfair, London

What is your role within Music Ministry? I am involved in training apprentices, in writing the Dwell Richly Course, and in the team who are setting up 3:16 Music for writing and recording new music, which will become more active in the next year- watch this space!

How have you been involved in church music ministry over the years? I started leading sung worship aged about 17 at my youth group, once I knew a few chords. As a student, I stayed at my home church and led the music most Sundays, before becoming a music apprentice through Music Ministry. From there, I joined the staff team at Christ Church Mayfair as Music Pastor in 2014. Since those early days, I’ve been seeking to write congregational songs and hymns that are full of God’s word, engage heart and mind and are singable for congregations. To help train others, I’ve been part of developing the Dwell Richly Course, a free 5-part course for musicians and music leaders.

What are you particularly passionate about when it comes to church music? I love the church. It can be messy, but it is God’s good plan to make disciples. That causes me to love the pastoral nature of music ministry: seeing how crafting services and using musical creativity can be a significant means of grace to the church, helping the word to dwell in us richly. And I’m passionate about training others – raising awareness of this approach to music ministry and raising up leaders to pastor people through song.
