Name: Andy Fenton
Role within Music Ministry? Team leader, and involved in teaching and practical training.
Church: Christ Church Kensington
How have you been involved in church music ministry over the years? I’ve worked at 4 churches over the past 18 years, and so have been able to experience different kinds of church set ups and systems week by week.
I worked with Christ Church Mayfair when it was still quite a new plant, and so was able to set up a new music ministry there, but with the benefit of good musicians. At Dundonald church, I was part of a big church with multiple services, which meant a lot of planning and coordinating. I was then the minister at a small church plant in Earlsfield, with practically no musicians, so often it was just me leading the music on my own or with a very small band. And finally I am now at Christ Church Kensington, a church with lots of good musicians, but many of them from classical backgrounds (it is located near the royal college of music and Imperial), which gives lots of opportunities for training those kind of musos to learn to serve in the way they play.
What are you particularly passionate about when it comes to church music? Leading clearly, humbly and faithfully
Here’s a post I wrote on the music ministry blog: This is a blog with a few reflections on the past few months of Music Ministry. And the contradiction we can face between biblical foundation being our primary focus, but sometimes at the cost of any joy or emotion.
